Recipe for seed starting soil mix is below.
It’s very easy to purchase a bag of seed starting mix at any garden center, but most often these are not organic. Since I grow a wide variety, I prefer to make my own. My simple recipe is this:
- Add 1/2 part of perlite, vermiculite or sand and 1/2 part of peat moss or coco peat.
- Mix 1/3 part coco peat or peat moss, 1/3 part compost and 1/3 part of vermiculite or perlite or sand. This mix provides sown seeds that require more energy to grow.
- Place in seed starting pots, water, add seed, cover with plastic wrap, and place in a warm area or on warming mats, then sit back and watch them grow. Once germinated, be sure to place under growing lights or in a sunny area before hardening off to move them outside after the last frost in your area. Have fun! Eat healthy!
